LED Christmas Lights, Great but Not Perfect

By: Liam

LED Christmas lights are worth using to decorate your foliage, windows, or entire house; these lights are more durable than traditional strings. LED means light emitting diode, used for many purposes from traffic lights to flashlights and indicator lights. The composition and condition of the material used to manufacture the LED light is the basis for its color. Although, LEDs can be clustered in a bulb and used as any ordinary household light, ones that replace 40 and 60 watt bulbs are currently expensive. LED Christmas lights, however, while still more costly than traditional lighting, will save you money over their lifetime.

 LED Christmas Lights Colors

LED Christmas lights come in a variety of colors and shapes. The usual LED Christmas lights colors are green, red, yellow or white. The more popular among these colors for LED Christmas lights is white, which are reported to have a lower failure rate than other colors. This color is often what you see decorating most outdoor Christmas decorations. Blue is reported to have the highest failure rate.

Advantages Of Using LED Christmas Lights

LED Christmas lights are great to use because they require 90% less power than traditional lights. Because they use little power they also do not produce a lot of heat, reducing holiday fire concerns. They produce far more light per watt and are also more cost effective especially if they are used as colored lights. This is because they do not need the use of the more traditional color filters that incandescent lights need to emit color.

LED Christmas lights are also advantageous because they are not affected by the continuous on and off cycle that many people like in Christmas lights. These LED Christmas lights can withstand the repetitive cycle of blinking that many other kinds of light usually can not take.

Other advantages of using LED for your Christmas lights needs are that they are made of solid components which make them almost impervious to shocks and falls, and have no glass bulbs to break. They have a life span that can be to 10 times that of other types of light sources. They generally dim when they are about fail instead of the usual abrupt cessation of function seen with other light sources.

LED Christmas lights can also light up in just a matter of a partial second and they do not contain any mercury, which is a concern some people have regarding compact fluorescent lamps. They also come in many different shapes and sizes to suit your Christmas needs. One caution, the connecting wires themselves and the bottom of the sockets can become corroded or damaged as can any string so they can still be a fire hazard. They are not indestructible. Always check your holiday lighting before use and discard or repair anything that looks damaged. To minimize corrosion do not leave LEDs outside permanently.
